A KraussMaffei Corp. Oct. 4-5 open house will mark the U.S. premiere of the all-electric PX series of KM injection molding machine and the new Elios series from Netstal.

Other technologies featured will include compounding, recycling systems and PVC pipe extrusion.

The event will happen at the company’s new technical center in Florence, Ky. The open house will feature technical sessions and exhibits from partner companies.

President Paul Caprio said KraussMaffei will run eight injection molding machines, including the PX, CS and GX series of injection presses. The new PX all-electric press is very modular.

“Not only do our customers reap benefits from high diversity and flexibility in the configuration of the suitable machine, for example through our wide range of clamping unit and injection unit combinations, but also in production or in retrofitting,” Caprio said.

The Elios will get its U.S. premier in Florence, molding round lids on a 24-by-24 stack mold by StackTeck, on a 3.9-second cycle. An Elion press will turn out turn out 128 pipettes on a cycle time of 5.6 seconds.

In other news from the KM open house, John Bozzelli and Rich Oles will co-present a new 30-minute seminar called “Melt Delivery Systems Required for Scientific Molding” for the first time.

The two will discuss common misconceptions and the truth behind some common ideas of molding related to the melt delivery system. The seminar is a drastically shortened version of the program that normally rjns three or four days. This fall, Bozzelli and Oles begin a year-long tour of the country with the seminar. They will release final dates soon.

The new seminar will blend segments of Bozzelli’s “Process Optimization via Scientific Molding” seminar with an update of Oles’ 11-part series “Peppet 2 Part,” which was published in Moldmaking Technology Magazine in 2015. Topics will include watt-to-mass ratio, time to reach setpoint, wattage distribution, end loss, heat sink and point of temperature control.
