The Advanced Manufacturing Office’s (AMO) Kelly Visconti was recently honored with the prestigious Arthur S. Flemming Award for her tremendous stewardship as a Technology Manager in the Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
On June 4, 2018, the George Washington University and its Trachtenberg School of Public Policy and Public Administration honored the 2017 award recipients with a reception, dinner, and awards ceremony.
Established in 1948, the Flemming Awards recognize the outstanding and meritorious men and women working across the federal government in leadership and/or management; legal achievement; social science, clinical trials and translational research; applied science and engineering; and basic science.
Kelly was honored within the leadership and management category for her instrumental role in the formation and execution of DOE’s highly successful Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation (IACMI). Under the interagency initiative Manufacturing USA, IACMI is a public-private partnership dedicated to creating affordable energy solutions and catalyzing manufacturing competitiveness across the U.S. advanced composite ecosystem. Additionally, Kelly led the negotiation and launch of the Rapid Advancement in Process Intensification Deployment (RAPID) institute and has served on the advisory board for three other Manufacturing USA institutes over the last four years.
For ten years, prior to joining DOE, Ms. Visconti gained broad industrial experience as an engineer and manager at The Linde Group, the world’s largest industrial gas company. She led R&D projects, was the quality assurance manager for North America carbon dioxide operations, developed and standardized engineering solutions, and conducted technical training courses around the world. She is a licensed professional engineer, received her M.S. in civil and environmental engineering from Rutgers University and a B.S. in chemical engineering from The Johns Hopkins University.
