Composite Manufacturing Magazine recently posted an article announcing the first “real” hoverboard made possible by composite materials. The ArcaBoard, developed by ARCA Space Corporation, is planned to hit the market mid-April in Monaco.
After the creation of seven plywood prototypes, the company found its success by incorporating carbon fiber and fiberglass into the design. Although the company is still experimenting with many different materials, ARCA Space engineer Emilio Perez says composites have proven to be the most promising in terms of performance. The current model is comprised of a carbon fiber outer shell with a fiberglass support structure, coming in at a total weight of 180 pounds.
