Beginning in Fall 2018 IACMI partner, Vanderbilt University, is offering a Master of Engineering degree in Risk, Reliability and Resilience (RRR). This 12-month, 30-hour interdisciplinary program combines courses on foundations in risk, reliability and resilience engineering with elective courses from multiple engineering disciplines, and courses in project management, economics, law, and public policy. The variety of courses in the program is crafted to develop expertise and leadership in informed decision-making to account for uncertainty and risk, in order to enhance quality, efficiency, safety, security and environmental protection.
Vanderbilt University is a world leader in risk, reliability, and resilience research, education and outreach, with decades of investment in RRR research, facilities, and faculty. Vanderbilt also maintains extensive relationships with government agencies and private industry, creating a unique atmosphere of immersion and mentorship for individuals coming from backgrounds in industry.
A Master of Engineering degree in RRR is applicable to a variety of industries, as critical systems, processes, and devices that support society are subject to risks of disruptive events, including natural hazards, man-made attacks, and malfunctions. Systems have to be able to not only withstand such events, but also recover from them to an acceptable level of performance within a desired timeline. “In addition to manufacturing as a key application area, this degree benefits other industries in IACMI technology areas including the automotive, aerospace, and structures and materials fields. The experiences gained from this program make it applicable to professionals from many sectors in the U.S. workforce,” said Doug Adams, IACMI NDE Fellow, Distinguished Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Daniel F. Flowers Professor Chair in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, and Professor of Mechanical Engineering.
