Industry thought leaders from the Southwest Region gathered today in Knoxville for the IPP Maker Belt Field Trip, starting in Knoxville, Tennessee and ending in Louisville, Kentucky. The two-day trip was led by the Innovation Partnership Program (IPP), a joint venture between the XPRIZE Foundation and Singularity University and in alliance with Deloitte, and is a membership community of over 30 companies in the Fortune 500.

The Knoxville stops included tours of Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s (ORNL) Manufacturing Demonstration Faculty and Local Motors and featured presentations by additive manufacturing experts. During the Local Motors stop, attendees had the opportunity to watch a live demonstration of the Olli, a 3D printer, self driving electronic vehicles and its new consumer report, and learn more about the East Tennessee manufacturing ecosystem from a panel of local market experts including Robin Parton Pate, IACMI Communications & Workforce Director, Jesse Smith of ORNL, Tori Watson of Techmer PM, and Greg Haye of Local Motors.
