Techmer PM Additive Manufacturing Materials Used for First Time in Heavy Construction

Techmer PM, an IACMI member, recently collaborated with Oak Ridge National Laboratory to create the world’s first functional 3-D printed excavator known as Project AME (Additive Manufactured Excavator). Learn more about the project in the article below.

CLINTON, Tenn., May 10, 2017 – Techmer PM created materials that were used in the world’s first functional 3-D printed excavator during a collaborative industry project with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

The excavator, known as Project AME (Additive Manufactured Excavator), was printed at the Department of Energy’s Manufacturing Demonstration Facility and utilized different 3-D printing methods and materials on the three separate components of Project AME-a steel hydraulic arm, an aluminum heat exchanger, and an operator’s cab printed using a modified polymer. Techmer PM’s compound was selected by ORNL for the driver’s cab due to its strength and superior printability.

Project AME was recently on display at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2017, where exhibits of cutting-edge technologies gave a glimpse of the innovations shaping manufacturing and construction.

“At Techmer PM, we appreciate Oak Ridge National Laboratory showcasing our expertise in polymer design for the heavy construction industry with Project AME,” said Tom Drye, vice president of emerging markets and innovation. “Techmer PM is focused on providing additional value to industry through collaboration on projects like this.”

Over the past several years, Techmer PM has worked with partners in science, industry, and academia on many 3-D innovations and continues to provide the latest in materials technology to the 3-D printing industry. Construction firms have been able to utilize technology in many different ways that have been able to do their projects and working more efficient, an example of this construction project management software similar to those from companies like Raken, which assist with making sure that projects run on time and within a safe manner. Construction projects can be a costly enterprise, between getting supplies, permits and ensuring that safety protocols are followed it can be an arduous task. This is why it is important to find a company that has the best interest of the construction at heart. A reputable construction supplies company will try its best to provide quality supplies, such as concrete resin, concrete hardener, and filler, to ensure that any construction feat is well supplied, and runs smoothly.
