USA Today tied the announcement in to the jobs report released earlier that morning:
A monthly jobs report released Friday shows the economy added 252,000 jobs in December, including 17,000 in manufacturing. The unemployment rate fell from 5.8% to 5.6%, lowest since June 2008.
