Oak Ridge National Laboratory and IACMI-The Composites Institute invite you to our Transatlantic Cluster Conference on Lightweighting Technologies & Materials on February 13, 2017 in Knoxville, TN.
The half-day conference will include brief presentations and panel discussions by US and German lightweighting experts:
- Mohammad Khaleel, Associate Laboratory Director, Oak Ridge National Laboratory
- Craig Blue, Director, Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, Oak Ridge National Laboratory
- Vlastimil Kunc, Team Lead, Polymer Materials Development, Oak Ridge National Laboratory
- Dale Brosius, IACMI Chief Commercialization Officer, Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation (IACMI)
- Cliff Eberle, Director, Materials and Processing Technology, Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation (IACMI)
- Tjark von Reden, Active Director of the Leading-Edge Cluster, MAI Carbon
- Tino Wollmann, Research Associate at the Institute of Lightweight Engineering and Polymer Technology, Technical University Dresden
Attend the event and learn where the lightweighting industry is going in Germany and the US, and how cluster organizations can support your business.
Following the conference, attendees can participate in a site visit of the Manufacturing Demonstration Facility.

Additional Roadshow Information:
Lightweighting technology and materials are becoming increasingly important in many industries both in Germany and the United States. There are three industries, however, where lightweight has played an important role in product design almost from their inceptions: automotive, aviation, and wind energy. In these industries, the use of lightweight materials and design is expected to grow continuously in the coming decades. Leading lightweighting materials are aluminum, magnesium, carbon composites and high-strength steel. Through the enormous changes in the material mix, significant challenges and opportunities will emerge – automotive suppliers and the machinery industry are expected to be the key beneficiaries.
To build on these developments, GACC Midwest organizes a roadshow on the topic of Lightweighting Technologies & Materials on February 13-17, 2017 in the US.
