IACMI partners, Ford and DowAksa are collaboratively transforming the automotive market. Their objective to make carbon fiber the sensible alternative to steel structures has earned them a Detroit Free Press Automotive Difference Maker award.
Starting with a few carbon fiber parts on the Ford GT supercar, the development project aims to create strong, lightweight vehicles with fewer emissions available to mass-markets in the foreseeable future. Vehicles like the F-150 pickup, Fusion midsize sedan and Explorer SUV are being evaluated for the use of carbon fiber parts, with the potential to be built weighing hundreds of pounds less than current vehicles.
