DESCRIPTION
The Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation, or IACMI – The Composites Institute, is one of 16 Manufacturing USA innovation institutes created to secure U.S. global leadership in advanced manufacturing. Established in 2015 by the U.S. Department of Energy, IACMI brings together member organizations from manufacturers of all sizes, academic institutions, and government agencies to work on major research and development projects relevant to the industry and train people on advanced manufacturing skills.
OVERVIEW
IACMI is seeking a dynamic, professional intern with strong organizational skills to assist in a wide variety of PR, marketing, communications, and outreach activities. The intern will gain experience into the day-to-day aspects of the communications field, provide concrete deliverables, and learn basic marketing and public relations strategies. The intern will be a significant business asset to IACMI by assisting the communications team in a variety of projects to enhance existing communication channels, support outreach activities, and drive member engagement.
2022 Communications Internship Program (*Hybrid: In office and remote from home)
(*Some in-office support will be needed and following CDC safety guidelines required.)
Internship Term: Early May 2022 – mid August 2022
Hours: Flexible (20 hours each week)
Compensation: This position will pay $15.00 per hour worked as a 1099 independent contractor, and company pre-approved expenses

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Working toward Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related field
- Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize and multi-task
- Excellent writing and interviewing skills (knowledge of AP-style is a plus)
- Experience working on and meeting deadlines
- Content creation experience with company website (WordPress is a must)
- Experience with social media and best practices (LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, etc.)
- Experience in Adobe Photoshop and/or InDesign is a plus
- Basic knowledge of Salesforce/Pardot or other management systems is a plus
- Background/knowledge of manufacturing/composites industry is a plus
JOB FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
General Responsibilities
- Assist supporting the planning and execution of communication initiatives across the organization
- Content creation and administration of company e-newsletter and website (iacmi.org)
- Support social media planning and content creation, including platform management and monitoring
- Create and edit a variety of print and online content including stories, news releases, company announcements, blogs, videos, social messages, fact sheets and white papers, and presentations
- Assist in research, coordination and implementing new communication technologies
Outreach, Membership and Events
- Support the communications team with planning and logistics of trade shows and outreach events
- Travel to events may be required, including to IACMI’s Summer 2022 Members Meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah (June 28-30) and/or America’s Cutting Edge (ACE) bootcamps held tentatively May-July in Knoxville
- Work with communications team to engage regional and local media
- Develop content for pre- and post-event promotion
- Assist with data integration from multiple tracking sources into Salesforce/Pardot, and work with communications team to create membership communication strategy through the platform
- Work with communications team to analyze Salesforce data and create segments to customize messaging to engage future members and stakeholder groups
- Other tasks and duties as assigned
